Road Trip 2009 - Day 1

2009's road trip takes us to Gatlinburg, TN.

We've already taken close to 300 pictures! Sorry, there are only a few here. You'll have to see the rest later.

Not much to report today as most of it was spent traveling. It's an 8 hour drive. We started out just after 7am today. We stopped about every 2 hours. We made our second stop in West Virginia where we ate our picnic lunch in the car - it was only 42 degrees, foggy, and misty.

Cayden burning off some of the energy before we got back to driving. It's hard to tell from this picture but his feet are actually off the ground.

Out of the window of the (moving) car (thanks for letting us borrow the camera, dad!)

After all of the stops we made it to Gatlinburg by 5pm. We got checked into the hotel and relaxed for a little while then headed out for dinner at Fuddrucker's. Then we headed to one of the many go-kart raceways in Gatlingburg - but not to actually ride the go-karts. We saw one raceway that had some kids rides which Cayden referred to as a carnival. He's been mentioning that he wanted to go to a carnival on our trip. Lucky for us we found one! He had lots of fun riding the carousel, train, ferris wheel, and "spinning ride that made me worried" (Cayden's words) but was still fun. He also spent some time in the kid's arcade where he won a few tickets that he redeemed for an eraser decorated with a picture of a horse (he's such a sucker for anything with animals). Bad parents didn't bring a camera, though. Sorry.

Swimming in the pool after the "carnival". It's a really cool pool area, with a main pool, a kiddie pool and a hot tub. Cayden and Jay spent some time in the main pool area then moved here to the kiddie pool. The only bad thing about the pool? It's in the main hotel area. Sounds fine, right? Except that we're across the street in a different building. It was pretty chilly tonight so we actually had to drive across the street to the pool so that no one would be walking back in the cold soaking wet.

It's been a long day. Goodnight.

We're planning on spending tomorrow exploring what we can of the Smokies - provided the weather cooperates.

Happy Easter, all!

More later!
