Mother's day is just around the corner. When I was thinking about gifts for my mom and grandma, I decided it should be something Cayden and I could make together. I like to find projects Cayden can either do himself or at least help with that can be given as gifts. I think those gifts are often more memorable. If I'm able to make it from things I already have at home - even better! So, when my friend Kellie posted a Mother's Day challenge on her blog about going green, I jumped at the chance to participate. Instead of just showing off the finished product here, I've included the instructions AND pictures for you as well.
Cayden and I made handprint flower bouquets. I found the idea here. We're using ours as Mother's day gifts. But, I think they'd make good end of the year teacher gifts. Or, just a gift to cheer up a friend. :)
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Construction Paper
- Straws
- Tape
- Scissors
- Pencil
I didn't have construction paper. But, I did have plenty of scrapbook paper. So, I chose some spring colors and got to work. First we traced Cayden's hand. Then cut them all out. Since the scrapbook paper was only printed on one side we needed to use 2 "hands" for each flower (if you use construction paper, you'll only need one per flower). Tip: try tracing your child's hand just once, cut it out and use it as a template. It's much easier than trying to get a toddler to stand still long enough to trace his/her hand over and over. Trust me!
Here is a finished flower.
And, of course, since the gifts were made from things we already had at home, I couldn't go out and buy cards! Here are the cards I made.

I love it Erin - especially with the scrap book paper instead of construction paper. You and Cayden did a great job. Thanks for participating!
